Research results of excessive sitting

Head
Sitting for long periods of time can cause blood clots to form which can travel to the brain causing a stroke.

Back
Sitting for long periods puts a great deal of strain on the spine. Over time, excessive sitting may lead to compression of the intervertebral discs. When the muscles are tense with pressure, sudden movements can result in injury, for example lumbago or sciatica.

Neck
Day-to-day bad posture affects the neck muscles and neckline. This may occur as a headache or as a night time numbness of your fingers. Maybe linked to sleep apnea also. 

Lungs
You are twice as likely to get lung embolism or blood clot if you sit most of your days.

Belly
Excessive Sitting connects to obesity and may increase colon cancer risk. The amount of fat burn is also affected by the amount of blood flow in red muscle cells, which is on average half of the muscles mass in the legs. 

 

 

Feet
Numbness in the legs may be caused by poor blood circulation. It can also cause pinched nerves if sitting for long periods of time. Sitting for hours on end can cause the muscles to shrink due to restricted movement. Do your best to move those legs. Any movement is better than none.

Cardiovascular system

Little or no physical activity may lead to high blood pressure.

Heart

People who live a sedentary life are up to twice as likely to die or develop diabetes and heart disease than those who move frequently. A sedentary lifestyle increases your risk for heart diseases.
